Paul Deemer is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator known as one of Austin’s most in-demand musicians. Born and raised in El Paso, he holds a B.M. in Trombone Performance from the University of Arizona and an M.M. from the Frost School of Music. Since moving to Austin in 2010, Paul has become a first-call performer across genres—funk, soul, latin, pop, jazz, classical—and plays trombone, trumpet, flugelhorn, baritone, percussion, and keyboards.
Paul has toured internationally with The Polyphonic Spree and nationally with Calexico, Hard Proof, Progger, and Brownout. His horn section has backed major artists including Gary Clark Jr., Jon Batiste, Maggie Rose, Aaron Frazer, Adrian Quesada’s Jaguar Sounds, and Thee Sacred Souls on renowned stages such as Radio City Music Hall, Bestival (UK), and the Moody Amphitheater. He has appeared on multiple ACL Live tapings and recently completed a year performing with the live band on the #1 live comedy podcast, Kill Tony.
As a recording artist, Paul has contributed to albums by Shiny Ribs, Molly Burch, Trail of the Dead, Dave Grusin, The Polyphonic Spree, and members of Black Pumas. A respected educator, he serves on the faculty at both Texas State University and the University of Texas at Austin as professor and lecturer of Jazz Trombone. Paul continues to perform, record, and lead ensembles across Austin, showcasing a career that spans more than 25 years of musical excellence.
